virtual buffer suddenly disappears

Mohammed Al Shara
Hi.

using firefox 29 and NVDA 2014.2 rc1, with large pages like
www.techcrunch.com virtual buffer would sometime disappear every now and
then. I open the page above, do h to review stories on there. for about
5 headings things will be fine, then pressing h would result in "blank".
at the moment if I press NVDA plus tap to know the focus, it says
"unknown". tabbing would usually solve this temporarily but it soon
comes back.

Windows 8.1 x64, Linovo touch screen core I7 CPU, 8 GB ram.

any ideas, known bug reports?

Mohammed.

Re: virtual buffer suddenly disappears

James Teh
Hi.
Does it definitely say "blank" or does it just say nothing? I can't
think of any way you could hear "blank" when pressing h.

If you have the Flash plugin enabled, can you please try with it
disabled? You can do this in Tools menu -> Add-ons.

Thanks,
Jamie

Hi,

Could it be due to some nasty browser extension ?

Re: virtual buffer suddenly disappears

Mohammed Al Shara
In reply to this post by James Teh
Hi Jamie.

I am sorry, it simply echos "h" as I have echo characters enabled. Yes,
Flash Plugin is activated. I suspect that flash is really the reason,
but don't you think that I would be missing on some important stuff if I
deactivate flash? Many websites still use flash for video or other things.

I just tried to test now, and it was more responsive, it seems it
depends on the amount of flash content loaded.

Thank you.
Mohammed.

Also do you have the official 13 release of Flash, or one of the later 14
beta versions. I often find that although in some cases the betas are
better, every so often odd things can happen, might it be just its got so
slow by then it thinks its got nothing there.

Mohammed,

I would try flash beta 14:

See if this resolves your issues.

Thank you.

Re: virtual buffer suddenly disappears

Try disabling webVissum and try the page again. Doesn't that try and
present pages in a more readable manor in some cases? Perhaps it's
breaking something. Best to check.

That said, I did run into this recently on a wordpress site, will post
link if I can ever get it to repro. As so often with this sort of
thing, it's a pain to nail down and consistently se the issue. *sighs*

Re: virtual buffer suddenly disappears

I was more suggesting you disable it temporarily to determine whether
this is the cause of the problem. There is a known issue with Firefox
accessibility and Flash which causes symptoms like those you describe,
but it's extremely difficult to reproduce reliably and therefore
difficult to debug.
