accessibility of the built in windows 10 apps

coffeekingms@hotmail.com
hi all

I'm Kendell Clark. I'm just now getting back into windows after
switching to linux 5 years ago. I'm still involved in linux, I maintain
my own distro now called sonar, which you can get at
http://www.sonargnulinux.com, but I'm not hear to sell that. I'd like to
get back into NVDA development since my skill have improved a little
while helping to improve linux. I still can't code, but I should be able
to follow instructions, file bug reports, improve documentation, that
kind of thing. I'm a registered windows 10 insider, and I want to help
improve the accessibility of the built in windows apps, news, weather,
skype preview, etc. Right now, out of the built in windows apps only
news and weather are accessible enough to be used. The mail app does
work, somewhat, but NVDA doesn't announce typed characters when
composing messages. The builtin facebook and twitter apps are completely
inaccessible, although a friend of mine says that's because they're
actual browsers hard coded to facebook and twitter, respsectively,
although I'm not sure if that's true. Are these problems an NVDA issue
or  problems microsoft needs to fix, working with you guys when needed?
To be completely honest, Microsoft should have worked all this out
before windows was released to manufacturing, and brought you guys in,
since you guys are the number one screen reader, at least that's what I
keep hearing.

Thanks

Kendell Clark

Re: accessibility of the built in windows 10 apps

Joseph Lee
Hi,
Regarding typed character issue, that's covered by issue 6017 at:
http://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6017
Mick worked on this a few days ago, and based on what he said, it requires
build 14986 or later in order for the fix to work correctly (that is, those
using Windows 10 and are experiencing this issue should upgrade to Creators
Update once it comes out).
As for universal apps, take a look at:
http://github.com/josephsl/wintenapps
Cheers,
Joseph
