as the subjects says, what's the difference to actually directly
downloading nvda source from git and cloning it, and how do I clone
spesific tags such as 2012.3

Hi:
The Differenbce is that cloning it actually puts the whole projects history on your system. Downloading the zip doesn't put any git repo there. Also, check out git help checkoutof git.
