Re: a rare problem with one core voice

James Teh
Do you have a file called nvdaHelperLocalWin10.dll inside the lib directory in your NVDA program directory?
Do the mobile voices work with Narrator?

I'd first suggest reinstalling NVDA to see if that fixes the issue.

Re: a rare problem with one core voice

Hi,
You may have answered this already but: which Windows 10 release are you
using? I can confirm this on versions other than Creators Update (1703) and
newer builds.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: a rare problem with one core voice

James Teh
Joseph, did you mean to say you can or can't confirm this yourself? You said "can", but just making sure it wasn't a typo. In order to track this down, I'll probably need someone willing to fiddle with some debugging tools.

Re: a rare problem with one core voice

Joseph Lee
Hi,
To clarify:
* Windows 10 Version 1607: OneCore driver fails to load.
* Version 1703 and later: yes, it loads.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: a rare problem with one core voice

James Teh
If one of you is able, please do the following on a system where this doesn't work:
  1. Download Process Monitor and extract it somewhere you can easily get to with a command prompt.
  2. Save the attached file (nvdaDllLoad.pmc) in the same directory where you extracted Process Monitor.
  3. Restart NVDA.
  4. Open the NVDA Synthesizer dialog but do not select a synthesizer yet.
  5. Open a command prompt.
  6. Change to the directory from step 1 and run the following command:
    procmon.exe /LoadConfig nvdaDllLoad.pmc
  7. Answer yes to the UAC prompt that appears.
  8. Now, return to the Synthesizer dialog, select Windows OneCore Voices and press enter. At this point, NVDA will throw up an error.
  9. Return to Process Monitor, select File -> Save as and save the log file.
  10. Provide that log file to me. It will possibly be too big to attach to an email. You may need to zip it or file share it.

Thanks.

  9. Return to Process Monitor, select File -> Save as and save the log file.
  10. Provide that log file to me. It will possibly be too big to attach to an email. You may need to zip it or file share it.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Joseph, did you mean to say you can or can't confirm this yourself? You said "can", but just making sure it wasn't a typo. In order to track this down, I'll probably need someone willing to fiddle with some debugging tools.

Re: a rare problem with one core voice

Joseph Lee
In reply to this post by James Teh

Hi,

Yes, works (surprisingly, it works on older Windows 10 releases such as build 10586 and even on 10240). We should also document that OneCore voices are available on Windows 10 only, although it should be noted that, on Windows 8.x, when I select OneCore, SAPI5 desktop voices are used. I think we should add a check when the synthesizer loads to make sure one is running Windows 10.
Cheers,

Joseph

Thanks Joseph. Can anyone experiencing this problem please try this try build and report whether it fixes the problem?

Thanks.

Jamie

Joseph, did you mean to say you can or can't confirm this yourself? You said "can", but just making sure it wasn't a typo. In order to track this down, I'll probably need someone willing to fiddle with some debugging tools.

Yes, works though Now NVDA 2017.7 shows an import error, though
perhaps this is nothing that should be fixed since downgrade is not
recomended.
