Question about talking to the instant translate developers

Brandon Keith Biggs
Hello,
Who is the person in charge of the instant translate addon?
I use it every day and have some comments:

1. Could there please be a command for translating from source to target and another from target to source language? Pressing s, then needing to press t is a lot of key commands and it is a little annoying Perhaps r for source to target..
2. if there is no selection could it check your clipboard and translate what is there and if nothing is there, can it do a copy and then translate the clipboard? I do a lot of work in spreadsheets and needing to press ctrl c, alt tab, ctrl v, ctrl a, shift nvda t and t is a lot of work, especially if I have something like 200 cells to translate.
Other than that, I really love this addon!
Thanks,

Re: Question about talking to the instant translate developers

Joseph Lee

Hi,

That would be Alberto. I’ll forward your question to the add-ons list. Because the community is reviewing version 3.0 at this point, I’ll ask Alberto if he could consider your suggestion for 4.0.

Cheers,

Joseph

hi.

translation from the clipboard is done by pressing shift+t after NVDA+Shift+t

if you want to assign commands to another key combination not in layer
you can do taht from the input gestures dialog.

Hello,
What is the input gesture's dialogue?
Also, is there anywhere that tells all the key commands for this addon? And what is the addon list?
thank you,

Hi Brandon,
Have you tried to set this configuration: "auto" as source, your
language as target, language for swapping as the language that you want
translate more frequently, and activate last experimental function that
you find in settings dialog (if you set "auto" as source)?
Anyway, it's true, after pressing s we can launch again the translation
process, without pressing t.

Alberto:
hmm, it's quite hazardous, imho... first, if there is no selection, and
clipboard is empty, what should we copy and translate? A line? A
paragraph? Too unpredictable. Then, if there is no selection, are you
sure of clipboard content? It may contain a password, or other sensible
data...

Alberto:
hmm, I don't work with spreadsheets, but is there no command to select
current cell, so then you can press only NVDA+shift+t and t?
Thanks for suggestions, anyway, I'll implement swap improvement in next
4.0-dev, as Joseph suggested.

Hi Brandon,

Ah yes, sorry for not explaining:

·         Input Gestures dialog: this preferences dialog allows you to assign, change and remove commands assigned to scripts.

·         Add-ons list: this list, hosted on Freelists, is the discussion list dedicated to add-on development and usage.

·         Add-on commands: in recent versions of add-ons, you can go to NVDA menu/Tools/Manage add-ons, select an add-on and go to add-on help item.

Cheers,

Joseph

Just copy the text of the cell to the clipboard with Ctrl+C, press
NVDA+Shift+T as normal, then Shift+T to translate the clipboard rather
than the selection.

Re: Question about talking to the instant translate developers

Brandon Keith Biggs
Hello,
I have English as source and Italian as target. But still, I have to press nvda+shift+t, s, nvda +shift+ t, t, nvda + shift+ t, s in order to translate from English to Italian.
That is a lot of key pressing. I would like to just press nvda+shift+t, t to translate from target to source and nvda + shift + t, r to translate from source to target.
Thanks,

Alberto:
No, there is a misunderstood, I'm afraid.
Source language should be on auto (first choice).
Then, what's the language you want translate to? This will be target
language.
Then again, what's the language that you encounter and want translate
more frequently? This will be the language for swapping.
Then, have you activated checkbox called Activate the auto-swap if
recognized source is equal to the target (experimental), shown if you
set "auto" as source? If yes, then add-on will commute automatically
source and target language according to swapping language. So, in many
cases, you have no need to swap manually.
Anyway, I'll try to implement an auto-swap even if source is not "auto",
but in 4.0-dev.

Hi,
I have a suggestion for this addon too. Use a certain voice to read the
translated phrase. Use case: I am not a native english user. I am reading
something in english using an english voice, and trying to translate a word
into my native language. The word gets read with the english voice, making
it hard to understand. I think you got my point.
I am not sure what would be the best way to implement this. Profiles seem
fine from a user's standpoint, but I am not sure how fast and easy would be
to programatically switch to another profile and back.
Thanks.

Hello,
This would be very nice for me as well.
Also, today my internet was cutting out and I wanted to cut the process because it was taking too long to connect. Is this possible?
(BTW, this is the best addon in the whole addon list! :))
Thank you,
