Proposal: Cascaded search presets for jumps in web pages

Heiko Folkerts-4
Hi all,
before filing an issue for that, I'd like to discus a proposal first:
I find myself very often doning some searches in a row to find a specific spot in a web page or web application. The searches are needed, bedause a second or third search expression would have to many hits before a starting point which I find with the first search. E.g. When I need to find a link called DevOps-XXX there mayb e many entries on the pagebut I know that I am searching the third occurence after some text like projects I would firstly search for projects and then search for DevOps three times.

Theese kind of searches are often the same and it would be handy if one could save such chains of searches, store them under a name and replay them via a hotkey or selecting them from a list. I know that this kind of navigation through a website is not optimal but I cannot change the sites or application I have to use.

could this feature be developed within an addon or would one need to change the NVDA itself for that?

Heiko

Joseph Lee
Hi,
If I understand you, you want some kind of a search history? If so, no need
to worry, as NV Access is tracking an issue for that.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: Proposal: Cascaded search presets for jumps in web pages

Heiko Folkerts-4
Hi Joseph,
no, I don't want a search history - though this is a nice feature. I want to automate jumps to a specific spots on a complex web page by "recording" a chain of searches that lead me to that spot. I want to replay that chain lter on to execute the jump.

I don't see why you couldn't do this in an add-on. There are already public methods to do the searches, move the cursor, etc. You'd have to write your own UI to configure and trigger it, though.

Hi Noelia,
Though the place markers is very interesting it won't help me in this situation. The pages and especially applications are dynamic and a saved bookmark upon character position would not work well enough.

Re: Proposal: Cascaded search presets for jumps in web pages

Noelia
OK, hope NVDA's core can implement this. Anyway, if you want us to do it
in the add-on, you can fill an issue at
https://github.com/nvdaes/placemarkers

Perhaps another edit box could be added, or  a spin control, to select
the number of ocurrences that they should be addressed, for instance,
the first string from the cursor, the fift, etc.

Cheers.
