[NVDA-dev] Problem with the new Seika driver;

Michel Such
Hi,

When trying to load the Seika driver, it fails saying that non Seika
display is fouund.
Though I have a Seika 40 Version 3 attached to my machine, with the
correct Com emulator installed since it works fine under Jaws.
This Seika is 4 years old, so maybe too old for the driver.
How could I investigate to sort out the problem ?
The log does not seem to contain enough information, I would have like
to see the list of the signatures the driver found when scanning the com
ports.

Hello,
before using the new Seika driver, have you tried with brltty?
Install it and let us know if with brltty it works.
Thanks.

Oh, another thing.
In some circumstances, Jaws doesn't release the display braille correctly.
So, try to start your pc without Jaws and run NVDA.
Sorry for double message...

Re: [NVDA-dev] Problem with the new Seika driver;

Ulf Beckmann-2
Hello,
I think in brltty the seika uses the powerbraille protocoll, not the seika protocoll,
Can you delete the # char in line 42 of the seika.py-file?
            # log.info("Found port {port} with hardwareID {hwID}".format(port=port, hwID=hwID))
Then start it again and send me ( [hidden email] ) the logfile of nvda, Perhaps the ID of the usb has changed...

One question:
When your run NVDA wit this Seika driver, do you need to have the USB to Com driver For Seika installed as needed for Jaws.
Here, it is installed and I wonder if this could not be the problem.

Hello Michael,

the link was ok but the server has try to run this python script... Now I have make a .zip, http://www.flusoft.de/seika.zip

Yes you need the USB to Com driver.
I have uploaded a small testprogramm to http://www.flusoft.de/seika.exe
The messages are only in german but its only same words, the programm searches the seika and show the protocol version.

which I hope means that it found the Seika.

Ulf,

One question:
When your run NVDA wit this Seika driver, do you need to have the USB to Com driver For Seika installed as needed for Jaws.
Here, it is installed and I wonder if this could not be the problem.

can you insert same log.info lines after line 48 or 50 and one after line 55 to see what is in versionS?
or you can download it for http://www.flusoft.de/seika.py
thanks

Hi Ulf,

Here is the part of the log that should be of interest for you.
On this machine, the Seika is attached to Com8.
I can see the driver finds something on com8, but also on Com4.
Hope this will help.

Hello,
I think in brltty the seika uses the powerbraille protocoll, not the seika protocoll,
Can you delete the # char in line 42 of the seika.py-file?
            # log.info("Found port {port} with hardwareID {hwID}".format(port=port, hwID=hwID))
Then start it again and send me ( [hidden email] ) the logfile of nvda, Perhaps the ID of the usb has changed...

Hello,
before using the new Seika driver, have you tried with brltty?
Install it and let us know if with brltty it works.
Thanks.

Hi,

When trying to load the Seika driver, it fails saying that non Seika display is fouund.
Though I have a Seika 40 Version 3 attached to my machine, with the correct Com emulator installed since it works fine under Jaws.
This Seika is 4 years old, so maybe too old for the driver.
How could I investigate to sort out the problem ?
The log does not seem to contain enough information, I would have like to see the list of the signatures the driver found when scanning the com ports.

I wonder if it does not try to connect to Com4 thoug it found the Seika on com8.
