NVDA and the french keyboard layout

Mohammed Al Shara
Hi.

one of the users on the Arabic mailing list says that when he uses the
French keyboard layout with NVDA he can't use some commands that use the
q letter. for example to quit NVDA. I can't help him as I don't use that
layout. Are there known problems or maybe there's something that user
needs to know?

Thank you.
Mohammed Al Shara.

Re: NVDA and the french keyboard layout

Michel Such
Hi,

I always use this keyboard layout and don't encounter this problem.
There are at least 2 french keyboard layouts:
fr189 for France
fr120 for Belgium
which are slitely different.
I use fr189 layout but don't see why there could be problems with fr120.

Re: NVDA and the french keyboard layout

Mohammed Al Shara
Hi Michel,

he says that he has 2 layouts, Arabic and French. when he uses the
French layout he has to press for example NVDA plus Q to read from
cursor to end of text, and NVDA + a to quit nvda. In Arabic he reverses
this.

I think it has something to do with the location of the a and q letters
in the French layout. Probably this is the norm, that when you switch
layouts you need to use a different set of keys. and have to train your
brain to switch NVDA keys according to the keyboard layout you're using.

Thanks.
Mohammed.
