Laptop layout issue

Sergey V. Fleytin
Hello, lists.

One friend of my recently noted quite serious laptop layout issue. This
issue affects russian language speakers, but I believe that the problem
may occur on any systems using non latin keyboard layouts.

The problem is that some keys which while in latin layout issue either
punctuation sign or special symbols, after switching to another language
(in our case in to Russian) produce letters specific for that language.
As a results, some of the nvda commands for the laptop layout stop
working and users have to swithc back to english layout to perform such
commands.

So far we cought the following keys which behave abnormally:

"[" (left bracket) and "]" (right bracket)/ These keys while pressed
with the nvda keys are used to simulate mouse button clicks. In russian
layout these are cyrillic letter "h" and cyrillic letter "hard sign"
respectively and while presed with the nvda key, they are ignored.
The same issue we have with the "," (coma) and "." (dot) keys, which in
Russian layout produce cyrillic letter "b" and cyrillic letter "yu"
respectively and stop performing their intended nvda fuctionality.

So I decided before placing this issue on a bug tracker to ask on this
list if this issue could be resolved quickly enough and if this issue
could be confirmed by any other users who use non latin based languages?

WBR,

Sergei.

Re: Laptop layout issue

mk360
As I understand it is a translation problem and can be solved in \program files\nvda\locale\language\gestures.ini. So I suggest you to contact the ru translator.

Regards,
mk.
