Errors and bugs when working in Excel

Brandon Keith Biggs
Hello,
Here are a few errors and bugs I have found when working in Excel:
After hitting enter on a cell after editing it, NVDA gives the following error:

ERROR - scriptHandler.executeScript (06:57:19):
error executing script: <bound method Dynamic_EditableTextWithoutAutoSelectDetectionUIAWindowNVDAObject.script_caret_newLine of <NVDAObjects.Dynamic_EditableTextWithoutAutoSelectDetectionUIAWindowNVDAObject object at 0x0505A710>> with gesture u'enter'

File "NVDAObjects\UIA\__init__.pyc", line 57, in __init__
COMError: (-2147220992, None, (None, None, None, 0, None))

If one presses an arrow key after editing text they get:
ERROR - scriptHandler.executeScript (07:13:08):
error executing script: <bound method Dynamic_EditableTextWithoutAutoSelectDetectionUIA.script_caret_moveByCharacter of <NVDAObjects.Dynamic_EditableTextWithoutAutoSelectDetectionUIA object at 0x0514DBB0>> with gesture u'left arrow'

File "NVDAObjects\UIA\__init__.pyc", line 57, in __init__
COMError: (-2147220992, None, (None, None, None, 0, None))

When one presses ctrl+left arrow when writing the contents of a cell the error is:
ERROR - scriptHandler.executeScript (07:16:52):
error executing script: <bound method Dynamic_EditableTextWithoutAutoSelectDetectionUIAWindowNVDAObject.script_caret_moveByWord of <NVDAObjects.Dynamic_EditableTextWithoutAutoSelectDetectionUIAWindowNVDAObject object at 0x05173D70>> with gesture u'ctrl+left arrow'

File "NVDAObjects\UIA\__init__.pyc", line 57, in __init__
COMError: (-2147220992, None, (None, None, None, 0, None))

Note that no error happens when pressing tab.

NVDA does not seem to announce spelling errors in Excel.

There is noticeable lag when pressing key shortcuts in Excel including f2, alt+h, enter, tab...

When a comment is inserted using the applications menu, the comment box is not readable, but the sheet is navigable after the comment without lag.

When a comment is inserted using shift+f2, the comment box is navigable, but the sheet then has major lag when moving between cells.

Thanks,

Brandon,

I’m using Excel 2016 on windows 10 with NVDA 2016.3.

I have tried to edit a cell with text both correctly spelt and misspelt. I have entered a simple equation in another cell and edited the values’ I used control left and right arrows and I have run the spell check using F7. I cannot get any bugs or any breakdown like that which you describe. Sorry!

Are you using the same configuration as this?

All the best,

Cearbhall

Thanks,

Brandon,

It is the final release candidate for NVDA 2016.3 and here is where you can read all about it:

Please note that if you wish to run next snapshots, you should always run the latest. Otherwise, you could be experiencing and reporting issues that were fixed long ago.

Re: Errors and bugs when working in Excel

Brandon Keith Biggs
Hello,
I updated to the September 1 snapshot and the only bug that was still there was the blank box that pops up when using applications to insert a comment.
I also don't hear any spelling errors. Is there a way to activate spelling while you type in Excel?
Thanks,
