Anyone noticed oddities with the find dialog gaining focus on the web recently?

derek riemer
It happens in firefox. You will press ctrl+nvda+f and nvda says find
dialog and then freezes. You have to go alt tab to find the window with
the edit box. This happened on one of my custom addons that uses
wx.TextEntryDialog and happens on the find as well.

Marco Zehe
Hi Derek,

I can confirm this in the current Next snapshot. Was introduced fairly recently I'd say.

Hi,
I can confirm this (in my add-ons as well). There is a ticket that suggests
that a recent master commit might be the culprit, along with other master
commits which is causing some regressions.
Cheers,

Hi,
I can confirm this as well and ist quite qannoying. AFAIK it only comes up
when firefox is started and you search for something the first time. After
Tabbing tot he search dialog etc. you can search as ever without problems.
Seems tob e something initializing.

I wonder if this has any connection witht the lack of focus of Firefox
generally when first launched or at times task switched to?
I think there is a ticket for it.
 Its really annoying.

See my firefox losing focus message too.
Not tried a search, but it might be part of the same issue, though I
associated it with the latest version of Firefox.

Hi,
I can confirm this as well and ist quite qannoying. AFAIK it only comes up
when firefox is started and you search for something the first time. After
Tabbing tot he search dialog etc. you can search as ever without problems.
Seems tob e something initializing.

Hi,
I can confirm this (in my add-ons as well). There is a ticket that suggests
that a recent master commit might be the culprit, along with other master
commits which is causing some regressions.
Cheers,

It happens in firefox. You will press ctrl+nvda+f and nvda says find dialog
and then freezes. You have to go alt tab to find the window with the edit
box. This happened on one of my custom addons that uses wx.TextEntryDialog
and happens on the find as well.

If you're running from source or are using Windows XP, NVDA doesn't have
UIAccess, so it can't always come to the foreground. This has always
been the case. However, in that case, it shouldn't report the Find
dialog at all, which for some reason is not the case right now.

If you're running an installed copy, this shouldn't happen at all. Is
this happening for anyone running an installed copy?

So, to clarify, you pressed NVDA+control+f and the dialog didn't appear?
I know there is currently another bug where a freeze may occur when you
press enter, but that's a different issue to what was originally
reported on this thread.

No, the dialog does come up, its title is even spoken, but keyboard focus doesn't land in the edit field as expected. You have to alt-tab away and back to get it there.
