A thread about Windows live mail and the release candidate on the main list

Brian's Mail list account BY
Just a heads up in case its relevant. It seems somebody is seeing odd
behaviour in windows live mail but not on that previous version of nvda. I
cannot figure it out myself as he appears to need to go cursor up to read
stuff.  I guess its different, but I no longer use live mail myself.

Re: A thread about Windows live mail and the releasecandidate on the main list

James Teh
We're not going to block the release for this, as Windows Live Mail is now end-of-life. That said, have you tested again with NVDA 2016.4 to confirm that this definitely wasn't the result of some other change on your system? A temporary or portable copy of 2016.4 should be sufficient.

Re: A thread about Windows live mail and the releasecandidate on the main list

I actually, and perversely find that Outlook Express with the bundled extra
bits for use on 7 to 10 has no such problems in the latest release.
It may well be that WLM which as I recall always had some very strange edit
fields in it might be causing issues again here.
I do not agree though that just cos its end of life according to Microsoft
it should not be supported. Many people like what they like cos they are
used to it, and if it works for them who are we to say it should not be used
as long as it still works on the version of Windows they are running.
Inside our NHS here in the UK there are still and will be still a lot of
machines running software on XP because the hardware, mostly medical
hardware, does not have any driver software for  newer Windows versions, and
the cost of getting new hardware is prohibitive.
So things are not always as cut and dried as Microsoft care to suggest they
are... grin.
